What is HIFU?
HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a safe, medical grade ultrasound treatment which in it's original format, was developed to treat cancers which were typically very difficult to address and endured a poor prognosis, including pancreatic and prostrate cancer. Applications for anti-ageing, face lifting and body sculpting were discovered in 2010, eventually culminating in the latest engineering developments and NEW Next Generation Technology.
Micro-shots of high intensity focused ultrasound energy are beamed through the surface of the skin stimulating new collagen and elastin synthesis while at the same time tightening muscles, improving skin texture, reducing wrinkles, firming and lifting the skin, giving you a sculpted, tightened and lifted new look naturally.
How does HIFU work?
The fundamental principle is similar to using a magnifying glass to focus sunlight, generating a burning heat. Focused ultrasound uses an acoustic lens to concentrate multiple intersecting beams of ultrasound precisely on a target point deep in the skin. Each individual beam passes through tissue with no effect (just like a normal Ultrasound scan); but at the focal point, where the beams converge, the combined energy has a precise localised thermal (heating) effect.
Who is HIFU best suited to?
A good candidate for HIFU is someone with skin that has relaxed to the point of looking, and often feeling, less firm. A lowered eyebrow line or sagging skin on the eyelids, for instance, is often the first sign of maturing skin. Typically, those in their thirties and older who have mild to moderate skin laxity are prime candidates. HIFU does however have the capacity to provide preventative anti-aging treatments for younger candidates.
While HIFU is not a replacement for a surgical face lift, there are many people who want some lifting but are not ready for surgery, either mentally, financially or logistically. There are also younger people who want to stay ahead of the game as well as those looking to prolong the effects of cosmetic surgery.
How long will a HIFU treatment take?
The length of your treatment depends on what area you are having treated. A full face treatment and neck takes 2.5 hours and a partial face or eye lift treatment can take around 30 minutes. Individual Body treatments can take anywhere between 1-4.5 hours on average, depending on the size and surface area of the treatment zone.
Is there downtime?
With HIFU treatment there is NO downtime. After your treatment, you can resume your normal activities immediately and there are no special measures that you have to take, other than some basic nutritional support and the avoidance of extreme physical exertion or exercise and extended plane flights for a brief period after treatment. It is even possible to have your treatment during your lunchbreak.
How long until you see results and do they remain?
Immediately after your HIFU treatment you may see an initial effect but the ultimate results will take place over the next 2-3 months and continue getting better for the next 4-6 months! During this time your body is naturally regenerating collagen and elastin and muscles are firming. As it is your own collagen that is being generated, the length of time the results last really depends on your own body's healing response. The treatment produces new collagen and muscle firmness beneath the skin but your own natural aging process, health and lifestyle factors will then dictate how long that translates into visible results on the surface.
How does HIFU stimulate the production of collagen?
During the treatment, HIFU delivers focused ultrasound energy deep beneath the skin at the optimal temperature for collagen regeneration. This jumpstarts a process known as neocollagenesis which produces fresh, new collagen naturally. HIFU treatments don't involve any creams, fillers or toxins. It is your body's own collagen-building process that is activated and creates the natural and noticeable results.
How do HIFU treatments feel?
While the ultrasound energy is being delivered you will feel tiny amounts of energy being deposited to precise depths of the skin. This is a positive and temporary signal that the collagen-building process has been initiated. Comfort thresholds vary from person to person but the sensations only last while the treatment is being delivered. Your Therapist will aim to make your experience as comfortable as possible. Patients typically leave feeling relaxed and excited about the benefits to come.
How many treatments will I need?
Instant, dramatic and lasting results can be achieved with just ONE treatment. The longevity of results achieved, once optimised, will vary depending on the clients age and degree of skin laxity, biological response to ultrasound energy and their individual collagen-building process. These factors are also strongly influenced by general health and lifestyle factors.
On average, Clients with optimal conditioning may enjoy their results for up to 3 years; Client's in their 40's up to 2 years and those in their 50's up to 1 year, without any other treatment interventions. More mature Clients may require repeat treatments after 6 months, in order to achieve and/or maintain their desired results. Some other clients may also benefit from additional treatments and future touch-up treatments, which can help clients keep pace with their body's natural aging process.
Unlike other Operators, at 'HIFU Skin Clinics - Australia' we have a unique array of revolutionary Holistic MediSpa Treatments, which have the capacity to both enhance and extend the longevity of HIFU Facelift Results, with regular and strategic application. Highly effective as standalone treatments, the Medical Grade Oxygen Therapy in conjunction with LED Photo-Rejuvenation Therapy are the mainstays in this regard.
Are there side effects?
It is possible for the skin to appear slightly flushed at first. This can happen during treatment but it sometimes lasts longer. If there is any redness, it should disappear within a few hours. Some clients experience a slight swelling, redness, tingling or tenderness to the touch however these are only temporary sensations. Other, less common post-procedural effects may include temporary bruising or numbness on small areas of skin. In any case there is absolutely NO risk of infection, scarring, malformation or other debilitating conditions, as can be the case with Cosmetic Surgery and other risky, invasive procedures.
What is the cost of HIFU?
HIFU treatment costs range widely and depend upon the size and number of areas being treated, with significant discounts available for bulk treatment zones. All pricing is subject to our FREE / NO OBLIGATION CONSULTATION process. That being said, the pricing, are well below the cost of cosmetic surgery. No interest Lay-Buy and After-Payment Plans are also available (Conditions Apply).
Is HIFU a replacement for a facelift?
While HIFU treats the same deep foundational layer that cosmetic surgery treats, although it comes close, it won't duplicate the exact results of a full facelift. Yet it offers a great non-surgical alternative that is gentler and non-invasive. It is also possible to extend the effects of cosmetic surgery with HIFU, beyond the standard 10 years.
How does HIFU compare to other aesthetic devices and non-surgical treatments on the market?
HIFU is unique on a number of levels and virtually ensures the redundancy of all other devices and non-surgical procedures, including RF, Laser, IPL, EMS, Micro-Needling, PRP, Cryotherapy and conventional Ultrasound Therapy etc.
Next Generation HIFU is the only, singular device which can comprehensively regenerate the skin surface whilst rebuilding the collagen matrix, AND lift and contour the skin by penetrating deeply to the underlying musculature of the face AND permanently ablate fat cells - a real 3D approach. No other device can penetrate so deeply or be applied so precisely and comprehensively. Despite being non-invasive, our Next Generation 'Apolomed' HIFU device is currently the most powerful device and intensive treatment available, which is how we can achieve such significantly better VISIBLE results, than any other method to date, all by employing the body's own natural wound healing response.
